Here’s the deal . . .
It’s an SUV run to the ghost town/state park of Bodie. We’ll leave Friday morning, September 26th. A 4 ½ hour drive through the Sierras (hopefully full of fall colors) will bring us to the Bridgeport/Mono Lake area. Depending on what we want to do, we can hit the little Mono Lake museum, and/or explore the lake, and/or explore some of the old mine and mill ruins in the area. We’ll camp on the trail to Bodie.
Saturday morning, after breakfast, we’ll break camp and head into Bodie from the backside. Bodie is an old mining town that is kept in a state of arrested decay. There is a small museum and guided tours. It’s really an interesting place! Check it out here: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=509 and here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... opter.html When we leave Bodie, we’ll head a few miles down the road to the Kavanaugh Ridge Trail and set up camp on the lake. Sunday it will be a couple of hours down the trail, out to Bridgeport, then home.
This isn’t a difficult run. Both trails are rated easy to moderate for stock SUV’s. It will be a relaxing weekend. And if the forecast turns nasty, we can just turn and head to the coast and camp along the beach.
If interested, let me know.
Jon

It stands for a golf cart on steroids!!

Bodie is well worth the visit. We plan on camping in the Masonic Mountain/Mine area Friday. Droping into Bodie from the backside and spending most of Saturday there. Really a neat place!

John, This trip is on my calendar. The kids have school and I work Friday. Earliest we could get on the road is 3:00PM. Were thinking head to Bridgeport and sneak in Speedy's tent, or get a Hotel and meet you in the morning. Camp Saturday night.

Later,
Sean

Hey Sean - good to hear it. Friday night, we plan to camp just a few miles outside of Bridgeport. Shouldn't be hard to meet up for the run into Bodie. Might even give you our breakfast order to bring in . . . :P

Looking forward to it!
Jon

Bodie make up day! I'm going Oct 24, 25 and 26. Were staying at the Virginia Creek Settlement on 395. Hope it's not snowing this time.
